Volunteer Trash Gather Organisers
As a Community based organisation, volunteers are the life blood of Trash Gather and you keep us going. You are welcome to Get Involved and help clean up our cities and local environment.
Trash Gather also has a few volunteer organisers. They are a friendly bunch so say hi when you see them at the next clean up.
Madeline Diamond – Founder
Maddie Diamond started Trash Gather back in 2017 when she got tired of picking up rubbish by herself, and thought a community effort would be much more effective (and fun). Maddie is extremely passionate about social justice and environmental sustainability, and believes that to make the world a more sustainable place, we need to bring people together. She is also the Executive Officer of grassroots environmental organisation SEE-Change, and is studying a Diploma of Sustainable Practise. Maddie is the 2020 ACT Young Australian of the Year.
Georgia Diamond
Georgia is our social media manager. Growing up in the country helped her to appreciate the balance of the natural world. She is passionate about helping protect/preserve the environment and its wildlife. She is dedicated to the fight for equality and a sustainable future. Day to day, Georgia is a disability support worker. She also has a little dog named Zuko - the unofficial Trash Gather mascot.
Eliza Mowle
Eliza is our enthusiastic all rounder volunteer, who joined Trash Gather a year ago and quickly became a lifer! Eliza loves connecting with people and seeking out new opportunities to get Trash Gather’s name out into the world! When she’s not picking up shiny things, you can find Eliza in nature, on an adventure or balancing on a slackline!
Bailey Lutton
This is Bailey, he likes to refer to himself as the ‘money bags’ of the group as he deals with the financial side of things. You may have seen Bailey in some local musicals around Canberra or just being a dramatic guy in public. He is currently studying to be a primary school teacher at UC and works in a local Canberra school as a special needs assistant. Bailey loves to spend time with his friends and family which is how he was scouted into Trash Gather’s inner sanctum.
Jess Fordyce
Jess looks after Trash Gather’s communications, and writes our monthly newsletter. She is currently in her third year at ANU studying international relations and is passionate about intersectional feminism, music and politics. She is a kids entertainer and also has a cat named Romeo.
Andrew Howes
Andrew keeps track of all that trash we gather. He likes messing around with spreadsheets and data almost as much picking up rubbish with friends. He’s studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the ANU and works for Femili PNG - an NGO that supports survivors of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea.
Nahin Abrar
Nahin is currently studying Information and Communication Technology at CIT. He started volunteering by collecting rubbish in his spare time at Gungahlin College. When Maddie caught wind of this, she knew he had to be on the team. Nahin is interested in renewable energy sources, and reducing our carbon footprint. He likes playing music and riding his bike when he's not dragging his friends along to clean ups.
Zuko
Zuko is the unofficial Trash Gather mascot. He may be a dog but you will often find him chilling out at Trash Gather events and helping out where he can.
